PaperTotal and Veryfi

Veryfi sells two things: a document extraction API and an expense app. If you are building document reading into your own product, its API goes much further than PaperTotal’s. PaperTotal is for people working through receipts, reports and approvals, with the API as one part of the Business plan.

Choose Veryfi if you are building extraction into your own software, need document types beyond expenses, want fraud checks from trained vision models or a capture SDK, or need a security report today.

Choose PaperTotal if your team wants one flat price for receipts, reports and approvals, with the API on hand for a smaller job.

Veryfi allows 300 receipts per user and charges only for active users, so a larger or part-time team can come out ahead. A PaperTotal plan shares one allowance across the workspace: 100, 500 or 2,500 scans a month.

Where Veryfi is stronger

Depth of extraction
Veryfi prices receipts, invoices, bank checks, bank statements and W-2 and W-9 forms, and lists more than 100 other document types. PaperTotal is built around expense documents.veryfi.com/pricing(opens in a new tab)
Building it into your product
Veryfi offers capture SDKs for mobile and browser, and model training for larger customers. PaperTotal offers neither.veryfi.com/pricing(opens in a new tab)
Fraud checks from trained models
Veryfi says it spots AI-generated receipts with a vision model, finds handwriting on chosen fields and takes device signals from its capture SDK. PaperTotal shows a reviewer evidence from what a file says about itself, PDF revisions, the arithmetic and the workspace’s own history, and leaves the decision to them. On real files its image checks flagged 96 of 162 hand forgeries and 1 of 824 authentic receipts, and none of 150 AI-made receipts. It ships no trained model. Where a Claude key is set, Claude reads the picture for signs an AI model made it, for edits and for handwriting, and that reading has not been measured.Veryfi docs: fraud types(opens in a new tab)
Published benchmarks
Veryfi publishes accuracy and speed figures. PaperTotal does not publish any.Veryfi FAQ: accuracy(opens in a new tab)
Security attestations
Veryfi states SOC 2 Type II certification and signs a HIPAA BAA on request. PaperTotal has no certifications.veryfi.com/security(opens in a new tab)
Free tiers
The API is free up to 100 documents a month, and the app is free up to 10 receipts a month. PaperTotal has a trial and no free plan.veryfi.com/pricing(opens in a new tab)

Veryfi offers EU data centres on request. PaperTotal offers no choice of region.Veryfi FAQ: retention(opens in a new tab)
