Use categories
How expenses are classified, and how they reach your books and your tax summary.
Every workspace starts with default categories, each on a Schedule C line. A new expense takes its category from a rule first, then from what that merchant was filed under before, and then from a built-in suggestion.
Someone who manages settings can change them under Settings, Categories:
- GL code, which goes out with exports and to your accounting software.
- Tax line, the Schedule C line the category reports on, and its deductible percent.
- Description hint, which shows under Description when someone picks the category.
- Approver, a person reports with this category also go to.
- Who sees it. Tick nobody and everyone does.
You can import categories from a spreadsheet. A disabled category stays on past expenses and leaves the picker.
